Armed Forces Week: Music, Military Displays & Softball
At 8 a.m. today, Mayor Tommy Battle was scheduled to kick-start a series of free public events marking Armed Forces Week in the Rocket City with an official proclamation signing ceremony at the Huntsville/Madison County Veterans Memorial.
The proclamation gives the community an opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice of men and women who have served in all branches of the military, past and present. It also recognizes the partnership of Team Redstone with North Alabama and the Tennessee Valley.
Tonight at 6:30, Huntsville’s Concert In The Park series at Big Spring Park will feature music from the Maneuver Center of Excellence Band from Fort Benning.
Static displays from various branches of the armed forces, including the ATF with their dogs and handlers, will hold demonstrations; the Huntsville Police Department will have response vehicles onsite; and the U.S. Army Redstone Test Center will have an interactive display set up.
NASA will also have an inflatable SLS display and a helicopter from the U.S. Veterans Memorial Museum will be on hand among other attractions.
The evening concludes with fireworks.
The fun continues Tuesday at Toyota Field where a popular event from the past – a free community softball game featuring local elected leaders vs. Redstone Arsenal starts at 6 p.m. Come watch Battle and Madison Mayor Paul Finley show off their athleticism against Team Redstone.
There will be food and beverages available, so bring the family out to the home of the Rocket City Trash Pandas to salute our military.
