Dynetics Awarded $237 Million Contract From U.S. Army

At the beginning of this month, the U.S. Army Program Executive Office Missiles and Space awarded Dynetics a $237 million contract over the next 2.5 years.

The contract focuses on the production of mobile ground-based weapon systems for the Enduring Indirect Fires Protection Capability of the U.S. Army.

Enduring Shield, a strategic part of the U.S. Army, provides a 360 air defense system capable of engaging and defeating multiple targets at the same time.

Over the next few years, Dynetics will be responsible for producing transportable defense systems designed to defeat Unmanned Aircrafts System threats, as well as Cruise Missiles.

Nearly all aspects of planning a production will occur in Huntsville and Dynetics hopes to deliver four units by 2022 and 12 units by the end of 2023, including 16 launchers prototypes and 60 interceptors.

This represents a very pressing and rapid schedule for the company.

“We’re ready to tackle this urgent schedule, supporting the safety of our soldiers with this integrated air and missile defense capability,”  said Ronnie Chronister, senior vice president of Weapons Technology and Manufacturing at Dynetics.

“Dynetics looks forward to delivering this next-generation solution to meet the Army’s needs now and in the future,” continued Chronister.

For this project, Dynetics selected the AIM-9X effector, one of the most effective air-to-air and surface-to-air short range missiles to date, produced by Raytheon Missiles and Defense, a Raytheon Technologies business.

The AIM-9X consists of the most advanced infrared-tracking and can be easily applied and installed on a variety of platforms, including the following aircraft: F-15C Eagle, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-16 Fighting Falcon, F/A-18 Super Hornet, E/A-18G Growler, and the F-22 Raptor.

Dynetics, a subsidiary of Leidos, is a company focused on space, cybersecurity, infrastructure, IT solutions, scientific research, and engineering.

Besides military related contracts, Dynetics focuses on producing a wide range of products, including software, hardware, and components and subsystems for other projects.

Based in Huntsville, the company employs over 3,000 individuals.
