March 1, 2021/in News, Nonprofits/by Lori Connors

Get ready. Get set. It’s time to nominate a woman of impact!

HBJWEDCFoundation logoThe WEDC Foundation has opened the nomination window to select candidates for the 20th annual Women Honoring Women event in September.

Women Honoring Women is the WEDC Foundation’s signature fundraiser, which recognizes area women who have created an impact in the Huntsville-Madison County community and serve as an inspiration to others.

Founded in 1998 by the Women’s Economic Development Council, The WEDC Foundation’s goal is to empower women in the community to achieve self-sufficiency and economic independence by providing mentors, professional networking, development programs, and flexible financial assistance.

Since its inception, the Foundation has helped nearly 200 women achieve their college education, in addition to assisting with career placement.

“Women Honoring Women has helped the WEDC Foundation make substantial impacts on the number of resources and guidance we’ve been able to provide to our scholars,” said Jennifer Linton, WEDC Foundation executive director. “It is our honor to celebrate 20 years of inspiration for our scholars while recognizing the brilliant women in our community. We’re thrilled to embark on this journey to raise funds and community awareness and can’t thank our sponsors enough for continuing to support this effort.”

To be eligible, nominees must live or work in Madison County; have created and/or have left a legacy in the Huntsville-Madison County community; have not previously served on the WEDC Foundation Board nor have been involved in the Women Honoring Women committee within the past five years.

Final selections will be announced in June. The annual event is Sept. 16 in the Von Braun Center North Hall.

Nominations can be made online at www.wedcfoundation.org/nominate  and the deadline is March 24.
