Dollar General Opening State’s First DGX in Huntsville

It’s not unusual for Huntsville to be at the cutting edge. The first in its class. A prime location.

unnamed 9That trend continues with the recent announcement of Dollar General opening its new concept convenience store downtown.

The new DGX store at the Greene Street parking deck will be the first in the state.

According to the company, DGX stores offer a smaller retail footprint and is designed to meet the needs of customers living, working and visiting vibrant metropolitan centers. There are DGX stores in Nashville, Chattanooga, Indianapolis, Orlando, Raleigh, Philadelphia, and Cleveland.

While the overall size may be smaller, Dan Nieser, senior vice president of real estate and development, said DGX stores will be adequately equipped to handle the higher volume of customers provided by metropolitan centers.

“We are excited for the opportunity to serve downtown communities and city-dwellers with the essentials they need in a convenient, easy-to-shop format,” Nieser said. “We look forward to the opportunity to serve metropolitan customers in exciting downtown living environments with value and convenience on quality products.

“We seek to help customers save money on the things they need so that they have funds left over to spend on the items they want.”

Along with coffee stations and fresh produce, DGX will also an assortment of grab-and-go sandwiches and salads. These are in addition to products associated with standard Dollar Generals such as home cleaning supplies, health and beauty products, dome décor, electronics, seasonal products pet supplies and more.

The store is expected to open this spring.
