Matthew Mason: McMillan Pazdan Smith Architecture – Senior Associate, Architect

May 27, 2026/in 2026, Development, Featured, Lead, News, Nonprofits, Philanthropy, Top 40/by Sarah Zupko

Born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Matthew Mason has 10 years of experience delivering thoughtful commercial architecture with Fuqua and Partners Architects, now McMillan Pazdan Smith. His work has included museums, nonprofit facilities, churches, aerospace environments, specialty surgery centers, and modern office spaces. He serves as Director on the AIA North Alabama Executive Committee.

Outside of work, Matthew and his wife, Allison, enjoy spending time together with their son, Benton.

What do you love most about living and working in Huntsville?

Huntsville brings together engineers, entrepreneurs, and creatives in a way that feels unique. It’s exciting to see the innovation happening here while the community still feels so close-knit.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?

Focus on learning from the people around you and building strong relationships. The skills and opportunities will come with time if you stay patient and keep showing up.

What motivates you on hard days?

On hard days, I’m motivated by the people around me, especially my family and the teams I work with. They remind me why the work matters and why it’s worth pushing through challenges.

How do you like to give back to the community, and why is it important to you?

I enjoy giving back through mentorship and involvement in the profession, including my role with AIA North Alabama. I also spent several years volunteering as an Area Chairman for Ducks Unlimited, organizing local events and fundraising efforts that support conservation. I believe communities and professions are stronger when people take the time to invest in and support others.

What’s your “why don’t we have this yet?” business idea for Huntsville?

The Tennessee River is one of Huntsville’s greatest natural assets, and while improvements are happening, I think there’s still room to develop a more vibrant riverfront district. It could become a place where outdoor recreation, restaurants, and community spaces come together.
