Yulista Celebrates the Completion of its Campus at Redstone Gateway

November 4, 2021/in Lead, Development, Engineering, Featured, Manufacturing, News/by Lori Connors

In the Yup’ik language, the word “Yulista” means “a place with a lot of people.” The term, “Quyumta” means “in unity.” Put together, these two terms illustrate the goal of Yulista’s newest campus at Redstone: a place of unity for many people.

Alaska-based Yulista recently completed its Redstone Gateway Campus with its third building, the Yukon, which serves as the company’s headquarters.

Yulista’s presence in the Rocket City started out small. In 2002, the company began operations in Huntsville as an assorted collection of warehouses. Twenty years later, Yulista has grown to 350,000 square feet of capacity.

“Twenty years ago, Yulista came to our community, and they started out with one little warehouse; and it seemed like every month, they added another warehouse until they had 160 warehouses throughout the area,” said Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “Today, they’re moving to a place where they can bring everybody together and they can put their whole product together in one place. It’s just an amazing thing.”

In the process of creating a unified presence, Yulista first broke ground at the Redstone Gateway in May 2019. Now complete, the three-building campus brings all elements of operations together.

The campus is a testament to what Yulista represents and all the great things they do by focusing on a central space for the customer, the employees, the mission, and the future to coexist together.

The Yukon serves as Yulista’s headquarters. Consisting of 105,000 square feet and 4 floors of state-of-the art collaborative workspace, features include a spacious 5,200 square foot conference center and the Café Usgumaut, which offers gourmet food and catering options. In the language of the indigenous Yup’ik people of Alaska, “Usgamaut” means to connect, to commune, to do life together. Connection leads to unity, unity to strength, which represents the heart and soul of Yulista.

The Kuskokwim Building houses 133,00 square feet of research and development, fabrication, and integration operations.

The Tundra Building is home to a 126,000 square foot warehouse and distribution center that includes space for kitting operations to support ground integration, mechanical and electrical manufacturing, and aviation integration kits.

“Years ago, with support from our parent company and board, we decided to put Yulista’s HQ in Huntsville, AL to better serve our customers, our team, and our partners,” said Josh Herren, CEO/President, Yulista Holding, LLC. “The completion of this campus is a continuation of that story and a reflection of our incredible team, customers, and shareholders. Exciting times in Huntsville, AL and we are honored to be a part of it.” IMG 0700

The Redstone Gateway campus also completes the consolidation of Yulista into two individual campuses to better serve their Redstone Arsenal customers.

In April 2021, the company celebrated the addition of the M6 Hangar, a brand new 34,000 sq. ft. aviation hangar and paint facility at the Huntsville Executive Airport in Meridianville. The M6 Hangar increases the Yulista Aviation Center of Excellence’s overall capacity to nearly 200,000 sq. ft. and includes a total of 110,000 sq. ft. of aircraft hangar space.

The Hangar also adds paint capability for both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft to include future lift and tilt-rotor aircraft.

“This success is based on team Yulista and what they’ve done for this community and the U.S. Warfighter,” said Madison County Commission Chairman Dale Strong. “We’re honored that you’re not making a first stop in Huntsville; this right here is a continued presence.”
