North Alabama welcomes new chapter of National Association of Women in Construction
The construction industry in North Alabama reached a significant milestone as the North Alabama Chapter #396 of the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was officially chartered on March 28, 2024.
Founding members gathered at 106 Jefferson Huntsville to commemorate this historic event.
“This is a great organization to broaden and further develop females in the construction industry in North Alabama,” said Brasfield & Gorrie Vice President and Division Manager Sara Beth Wilcox. Wilcox is the chapter’s first president.
With roots dating back to 1953 when it was established as Women in Construction of Fort Worth, Texas, NAWIC was founded to provide support and networking opportunities for women navigating a predominantly male-dominated industry. Today, headquartered in Fort Worth, NAWIC boasts over 115 chapters nationwide, offering members professional development, education, networking, leadership training, and public service opportunities.
During the charter ceremony, officers, directors, and all founding members were sworn in. The event drew guests from NAWIC National, NAWIC Nashville, and NAWIC Greater Birmingham.
Other officers for the 2023-2024 calendar year include Alexa Toler (Brasfield & Gorrie) as president-elect, Sarah Logan (HPM Leadership) as vice-president, Mary Seldon Luther (Brasfield & Gorrie) as secretary, Kasi Phillips (GTEC) as treasurer, and Maurene Hanner (Jesse Stutts, Inc.) and Andrea Simpson (turnerboone) as directors.
