Merit Bank has expanded its commercial banking teams with the addition of several experienced professionals. These strategic hires reflect the bank’s deep commitment to local leadership and relationship-based banking that supports the thriving business community across North Alabama.

J.E.P. Buchanan joins as Senior Vice President. Entering his 35th year of banking in North Alabama, J.E.P. is a widely known and trusted banker in North Alabama. He offers decades of industry experience, specializing in commercial lending and credit quality of commercial loan portfolios, which has earned him a reputation for building long-term, impactful relationships throughout the community. In his new role, J.E.P. will collaborate with Merit’s Executive Management team in areas of development, acquisition and management of commercial relationships, as well as providing leadership and guidance to the credit administration team.

Thomas Busby joins as Huntsville Market Executive, working closely with Merit Bank’s Executive Management team to lead the Retail, Commercial and Private Banking Teams. Nick’s unique knowledge of the regional market will further strengthen Merit Bank’s commercial banking capabilities.

John Mark McClelland joins as Vice President / Relationship Manager, where he will support the growth of the commercial banking division. John Mark brings energy, insight, and a commitment to expanding the bank’s reach by working closely with businesses across the area to deliver personalized banking solutions. He has a reputation for delivering thoughtful, solutions-oriented service and building lasting partnerships throughout North Alabama.

“We are thrilled to welcome these gentlemen to the Merit Bank team. I have known each of them for some time and they bring not only extensive banking expertise but also a deep understanding of our local market and a commitment to building relationships that matter. They share the values that define Merit Bank – community involvement, integrity, and a client-first mindset.” – Will Heaps, President / CEO
