Bank Independent Holding Food Share Drive

March 2, 2022/in Banking, Charities, Community Development, Food, Lead, News, Nonprofits/by Mike Easterling

Bank Independent, which is headquartered in Sheffield with offices in 18 North Alabama communities, announced it is holding its “Feed a Family for $5’’ Food Share drive to benefit local food banks.

The campaign will be held from March 7-25.

Donations of non-perishable items and/or cash can be dropped off at any Bank Independent location,  directly through strategic partner businesses, or by the PayPal link found on bibank.com/help.

Bank Independent works with local partner organizations across seven counties to provide donations to families in need.

“Our Food Share initiative has always been driven by the need to address food insecurity in our community,” said Macke Mauldin, president and CEO of Bank Independent. “The charities we support provide vital assistance for families undergoing hardships. Our efforts help our partners make a positive impact in the lives they serve.”

Bank Independent has a Huntsville location at 132 Holmes Ave. NW and another in Madison at 7564 U.S. Highway 72 W. The Huntsville location will soon move to a five-story, 77,000-square foot building being renovated at 225 Homes Avenue in downtown.

“Last year, we heard from our local food bank partners that a simple donation of five dollars can feed a family for a day,” said Nikki Randolph, Community Engagement Officer at Bank Independent. “This message really resonated with the community, and thanks to their generous donations, we were able to feed over 5,000 families through our “Feed a Family for $5” campaign.”

According to a press release from the bank, the donations will be distributed to local organizations that maintain food banks to fill emergency food needs. These organizations include the Committee on Church Cooperation, Franklin County DHR, Food Bank of North Alabama, Limestone County Churches Involved Inc., Neighborhood Christian Center, Sidney’s Safe! Foundation, Manna House in Huntsville, The Meal Barrel Project and Help Center.

As part of ongoing efforts to supplement the annual Food Share drive, the Bank will donate ten cents for every Bank Independent Debit Card transaction made at a grocery store, up to $10,000, between March 7–15.  The total will be distributed across the local partner organizations.

The Food Share drive is part of Bank Independent’s Helping Hands program, which also includes employee volunteer efforts, donations and sponsorships. Other Share drives include Shelter Share to benefit animal shelters, Toy Share to collect toys for the holidays, and the School Share drive for school supplies.
