Wrestling legend Flair brings virtual wings restaurant to Rocket City

August 9, 2022/in Food/dining, Banking, Entertainment, Entrepreneurs, Food, News, People/by Mike Easterling

Old Guard professional wrestling fans take note:

Ric “The Nature Boy’’ Flair, the legendary squared-circle hall of famer who recently announced he had participated in his final match, is trying to be “The Man’’ in a new arena: hot wings via virtual restaurant Wooooo! Wings.

Flair launched the food delivery venture in six cities: Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, Nashville, Los Angeles, San Antonio and Jacksonville (Fla.).

In a press release, Flair said, “I love chicken wings and I really love flavors that hit you like a chop to the chest. To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man, and these championship wings and legendary flavors from Wooooo! Wings are THE MAN!”

The 73-year-old Flair, twice named to the WWE Hall of Fame, wrestled for what he said was the final time in a July 31 tag-team match at Nashville’s Municipal Auditorium. The pay-per-view event was partly produced by Conrad Thompson, Flair’s son-in-law, who is a podcast force in wrestling and also owner of Huntsville’s 1st Family Mortgage.

Wooooo! Wings launched in Nashville the same weekend.

The so-called virtual “ghost restaurants’’ partner with local eateries for the virtual restaurant that has a separate menu for deliveries available through Uber Eats. The brick-and-mortar location that prepares Wooooo! Wings in Huntsville is The Boot Pizzeria on Memorial Parkway South.

Thompson, who is also part-owner of Hometown Lenders, is married to Flair’s daughter Megan Fliehr. Thompson goes live on The Rocket 95.1 with advertisements and commentary during the Jimbo and Casio show each weekday morning.

Thomson helped steer Wooooo! Wings to the city for its six-city launch.

“The restaurant partner is my favorite watering hole,’’ he told the Huntsville Business Journal. According to the press release, “Wooooo! Wings’ legendary flavors and world championship wings will be prepared by Kitchen Data Systems’ (KDS) KitchPartner restaurants. KitchPartners belong to a network managed by KDS’ proprietary software, which matches member restaurants with brands to launch new virtual dining experiences, bringing extra revenue streams for both brands and their restaurant KitchPartners.

“The Wooooo! Wings’ menu, developed by ‘Team Flair’ in conjunction with KDS’ in-house chef, celebrates one of the sport’s most charismatic characters with flavors that match his personal brand. The virtual restaurant opens with competitive advantages, bringing a reach of over 25M+ weekly from a combination of Ric Flair’s podcast, social media accounts and those of his To Be The Man podcast’s network, Podcast Heat.’’

“Living legends deserve epic flavors,’’ Mike Jacobs, CEO and Founder of Kitchen Data Systems, said. “We’re thrilled to partner with Ric Flair and his partner, Podcast Heat, to offer this exceptional Delivery-1st dining experience. Created by Mr. Flair with our chef, the Wooooo! Wings’ menu embodies The Greatest Wrestler of All Time’s passion for his sport and luxurious style in each chef-curated bite. KitchData is proud to have worked with Ric Flair on designing a menu worthy of his name, talent and, most important, his fans.’’

Wing flavors include Buffalo, tangerine habanero, garlic parmesan and lemon pepper. Prices listed online are $18 for 10 wings, $25 for 15 and $32 for 20. Side items include french fries ($5.57) and veggie sticks ($3.50). The Fry Chicken Sando is available for $15.39.
