Huntsville’s newest independent bookstore celebrates grand opening
After operating as “a bookstore without a bookstore” for years, The Snail on the Wall is officially a bookstore with an actual bookstore.
That is how Lady Smith, the owner of Huntsville’s newest independent bookstore, described her journey at the store’s ribbon cutting ceremony this past Friday.
The Snail on the Wall bookstore is in the Five Points area of downtown Huntsville, at 816 Wellman Avenue. This street has become a vibrant shopping scene, with gift shops, a food market, a music store, a pet store, and now a bookstore.
The Snail on the Wall has been serving the Huntsville and North Alabama area as a pop-up and online bookstore for seven years, and Smith says they are delighted to be establishing a permanent store where locals can gather, shop, and attend author events and book signings.
“We want to it be a new experience every time you walk in here,” Smith stated. “We’ll have new releases and new recommendations from our bookseller team. We’ll also be hosting author events on a regular basis such as Mary Beth Waland in November.”
Smith has worked as an editor, writer, and English teacher, and has spent a large portion of her life studying and reading books.
