Kickball fundraiser to support youth sports set for March 25

February 21, 2025/in Events, Featured, News, Nonprofits, Sports/by Mike Easterling

The Bullpen Foundation, a charity organization that raises money and accepts equipment donations to support disadvantaged local youth baseball, softball, basketball, football, volleyball and soccer leagues, has set a date for its second fundraiser of the year.

The 510(c)(3) nonprofit held an equipment drive and a CPR class last Saturday at the Jaycee Building in John Hunt Park. Next up is the Kickball Fundraiser at Randolph School on March 25. Presenting sponsors are Huntsville Hospital Sports Center and The Orthopaedic Center (TOC).

All proceeds from this event directly support The Bullpen Foundation’s mission. The organization accepts donations of new or gently used equipment, as listed below.

“We also accept cash donations that will go towards the purchase of new sports equipment for the spring season,’’ said Jason Landers, chairman of the group’s board of directors.

The fundraisers are the lifeblood of The Bullpen Foundation.

“The fundraisers have been an important part of our mission to support the rec leagues across the city. Of course, we would love to see more awareness and participation each year,” said Landers.

Checks can be made payable to The Bullpen Foundation. There’s also a donation link on the website. Some equipment requests are league specific:

  • Baseball bats (USSSA stamp): Drop 13 to drop 3 sizes for ages 4 to 15+
  • Softball bats: (USSSA stamp): Drop 13 to drop 8 sizes for ages 4 to 15+
  • Baseball/softball equipment bags: Backpack or wheeled bags

The Foundation was started by a small group of community and business leaders in North Alabama with a passion to strengthen our communities, neighborhoods and families through positive youth athletic programs and leagues.

The mission of the foundation is to help disadvantaged children participate in youth sports on a level playing field by providing impactful resources such as financial scholarships, sports equipment, camps and clinics, and park volunteers.

This past professional baseball season, former Huntsville High and UAB player, and current Milwaukee Brewers outfielder, Brewer Hicklen, raised $32,000 with his ‘Homers for Hope’ campaign.
