Join the Team That Keeps Huntsville Running: Fleet Services is Now Hiring

July 11, 2025/in Economy, Employment, Featured, Government, News, Resource, Services, Success, Utilities, Workforce Development/by staff reports

The City of Huntsville is currently hiring skilled heavy equipment technicians to support its Fleet Services division, which manages a diverse inventory of more than 2,200 vehicles and equipment. These assets are critical to maintaining public safety, transportation, and infrastructure operations across the city.

The role of Equipment Technician II involves the repair and maintenance of automotive and heavy construction equipment. Technicians work with the latest diagnostic tools and are supported by overhead cranes, OEM-level equipment, and paid training programs.

The City also provides technicians with quality tool sets, removing a major barrier for many in the industry.

“As someone born and raised here, it means a lot to give back to the community that gave me so much,” said Ricky Wilkinson, the City’s Director of General Services & Fleet Services. “We have a tremendous team at Fleet, and I truly appreciate the dedication our technicians show every single day.”

In addition to cutting-edge technology and on-the-job training, the City offers competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, participation in the Retirement Systems of Alabama, paid time off, and stable work hours that support a healthy work-life balance.

“There’s all kinds of opportunity for growth,” said Matt Gardner, Fleet Services Manager. “We offer Ford STARS and Cummins certifications, plus in-house training on everything from hydraulics to electrical systems. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, there’s a place for you on our team.”

Applicants from a variety of backgrounds, including automotive and diesel technicians, manufacturing and industrial mechanics, and military veterans, are encouraged to apply.

Interested candidates can apply online. The deadline to apply is Wednesday, July 30.
