Huntsville Hospital has again received national recognition, earning a 2026-2027 Best Regional Hospital designation from U.S. News & World Report.

The designation places Huntsville Hospital among approximately 500 hospitals nationwide recognized for providing high-quality care across a broad range of medical specialties, procedures and conditions.

U.S. News’ evaluation helps patients make informed decisions about where to receive care using objective measures such as patient outcomes, nursing quality, patient experience and preventable complications.

Last year alone, Huntsville Hospital cared for more than 52,800 admitted patients, performed more than 48,300 surgeries and cared for nearly 188,000 emergency department patients, underscoring the critical role the hospital plays in caring for one of the nation’s fastest-growing communities.

Data from Madison Hospital and Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children are included in Huntsville Hospital’s rankings. All three facilities are part of the nonprofit, community-based Huntsville Hospital Health System (HH Health).

“This recognition reflects the skill and dedication of the physicians, nurses and employees who care for our patients every day,” said Jeff Samz, president and CEO of HH Health. “We are grateful for their commitment and proud to provide high-quality, advanced care for our neighbors across North Alabama.”

In addition to being named a Best Regional Hospital, Huntsville Hospital earned U.S. News High Performing ratings in:

  • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair
  • Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Heart Bypass Surgery
  • Knee Replacement
  • Pacemaker Implantation
  • Prostate Cancer Surgery
  • Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery

Four of those designations were earned in advanced cardiovascular procedures, highlighting HH’s Heart Center, Heart Institute, and Cardiology department, which has the largest and most experienced team of board-certified cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiac anesthesiologists, according to the American Hospital Directory.

Other hospitals within HH Health also received national recognition. Crestwood Medical Center earned High Performing ratings for heart bypass surgery, hip replacement, knee replacement, back surgery, lung cancer surgery and gynecological cancer surgery. Decatur Morgan Hospital earned High Performing ratings for prostate cancer surgery and diabetes care.

U.S. News has published its Best Hospitals rankings annually since 1989. The Best Regional Hospital designation is awarded to hospitals that demonstrate consistent excellence across a broad range of hospital services, while High Performing ratings recognize hospitals with patient outcomes that are significantly better than the national average for specific procedures and conditions.
