Liz Hurley Ribbon Run Back In Person For 2022

August 11, 2022/in Charities, Events, Featured, Health, Health Care, News, Services/by staff reports

Huntsville Hospital Foundation’s Liz Hurley Ribbon Run is back in person to run for the future. Registration is now open for the 19th annual 5K and Survivors’ Walk taking place Saturday, Oct. 15, throughout downtown Huntsville. This is the first time in three years that the Ribbon Run has been held in person, after two straight virtual races due to Covid-19.

Ribbon Run is historically North Alabama’s largest 5K, and boasted a sell-out crowd of 6,500 runners in 2019. The event benefits the Liz Hurley Breast Cancer Fund at Huntsville Hospital Foundation, providing the latest in cutting-edge diagnostic technology for the not-for-profit Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital Breast Centers.

“Our passionate staff is grateful for the state-of-the-art equipment that assists us in detecting breast cancers early and saving lives in our area,” said Patti Hopkins, RN, Director of Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital Breast Centers. “Proceeds from the Ribbon Run have helped make mammography at both centers fully 3D capable, provided essential ultrasound equipment upgrades and more. We hope you will join us this year as we run for future technology and patients.” IMG 8569CROP

Proceeds from the 2022 Liz Hurley Ribbon Run will provide for the top-priority needs of Huntsville Hospital for Women & Children’s Breast Center, including necessary Dense Breast Software upgrades to better pinpoint which patients need additional levels of cancer screening for accurate diagnosis.

With donor support, HHF will also launch the brand-new Breast Cancer Patient Experience Project, focused on improving each patient’s comfort and surroundings while in the Breast Center. The goal of these enhancements is to reduce the anxiety and fear that sometimes accompany these procedures.

The 2022 Ribbon Run will kick off with the Survivors’ Walk at 8 a.m., giving race participants the opportunity to honor and cheer on participating breast cancer survivors. The 5K race will then begin at 8:30 a.m., with runner awards at 10 a.m.

For those unable to participate in person for any reason, a virtual race option is also available.

For more information or to register, please visit lizhurleyribbonrun.org. Runners should register prior to Wednesday, Aug. 31, in order to secure the discounted $25 early-bird rate.

The Foundation thanks 2022 Founding Sponsor CFD Research for its generous contributions to this event and cause.
