KBR cuts ribbon on office space at Redstone Gateway

KBR, a company supporting NASA, military, CIA, NSA, FBI, and DIA operations hosted a ribbon cutting for its new office space at 6200 Redstone Gateway on September 20.

The new office space is comprised of 150,000 square feet with laboratory space, a conference facility, and classified capabilities. Approximately 1,000 employees are to work in the new office. According to Scott Butkis, President of Missile Aviation and Ground Systems, KBR has supported the military from Huntsville for 40 years.

“Since Gemini, KBR has been involved with every single astronaut in the technology and the training and the phase of them getting ready and prepared to be an astronaut,” Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutchen said. “That’s just, that’s amazing.”

According to KBR Vice President of Copt Defense Properties James Lomax, the company owns roughly 20 million square feet of space between Maryland, DC, Virginia, San Antonio and Huntsville but considers the new offices in Huntsville “some of the finest.”

Lynn Troy, CEO of Troy7 and President of Huntsville-Madison County Chamber of Commerce noted that in addition to being a longtime member, KBR is also one of the Chamber of Commerce’s trustee investors in the Huntsville Regional Economic Growth Initiative.

Byron Bright, President of KBR Government Solutions U.S., said that most of KBR’s back-end government work will happen in the new office space.

“We have a lot of dedicated employees here that manage the finance, the accounting and all the things that make the machine work,” said Bright.

Bright also thanked the Huntsville-Madison Chamber of Commerce for its support of KBR.

“We’re really thankful for the partnership that we have in this community and the friendship that really comes from working together and we couldn’t do what we do as a company without all the political support at the local, the state at the federal level,” Bright said.

Attending representatives included Madison County Commission Chairman Mac McCutchen; Commissioner Craig Hill from Senator Katie Britt’s office; Field Representative Shane McMillan from Senator Tommy Tuberville’s office; retired Colonel Brian Nauer, District Director from Congressman Dale Strong’s office; Dylan Smith District Director; Councilman Bill Kling of the Huntsville City Council, Henry Thorton, External Relations Officer representing Mayor Battle’s office; and State Representatives Parker Moore and James Lomax.
