TARCOG to host Fraud & Scam Summit 2024 to combat recent spike is cyber fraud
The Top of Alabama Regional Council of Governments (TARCOG) has announced that the organization will be holding a Fraud & Scam Summit in the coming weeks to address the rise in internet-based crime. The summit focuses on a recent statistic from the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center, which recently reported a 14% surge in elder fraud coming out of 2023.
The summit will be held on Thursday, August 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Bob Harrison Wellness and Advocacy Center, located at 6156 Pulaski Pike, Huntsville. Registration will begin at 9 a.m.
The Senior Medicare Patrol at TARCOG empowers Medicare beneficiaries, their families, and caregivers to prevent, detect, and report healthcare fraud, errors, and abuse. The summit will feature sessions on:
- Cyber security
- Financial scams
- Consumer fraud
- Legal implications
Additionally, attendees will have access to exhibitors from state programs, community partners, nonprofit organizations, and businesses from DeKalb, Jackson, Limestone, Madison, and Marshall counties, providing educational information and resources.
