VBC Director of Sales and Event Services to retire after 35 years in hospitality

October 2, 2024/in Featured, Hospitality, Lead, News, People, Recognition/by Gus Wintzell

After a distinguished 35-year career in Huntsville’s hospitality and tourism industry, Marie Arighi, Director of Sales and Event Services at the Von Braun Center (VBC), has announced her retirement, effective January 1, 2025.

Arighi has spent the past 25 years at the VBC, playing a pivotal role in securing conventions, tradeshows, and events that have significantly contributed to Huntsville’s growth.

“This year marks my 35th anniversary in hospitality, and 25 years at the VBC. It has been a rewarding journey,” reflected Arighi.

Arighi began her career in 1989 at Yedla Management’s Howard Johnson in Madison, later transitioning to roles at Hilton Huntsville and Country Inn & Suites by Radisson before joining the VBC in 1999. Her leadership and dedication have been instrumental in attracting thousands of visitors to Huntsville, helping to boost the local economy.

“Marie has been a cornerstone of our team,” said VBC Executive Director Steve Maples. “Her relentless positivity and passion for Huntsville have been infectious. Her impact on the VBC and the city has been immeasurable.”

In addition to her extensive industry experience, Arighi holds numerous professional certifications and has been recognized for her contributions, including being named Supplier of the Year by the Society of Government Meeting Professionals.

She has also been active in numerous local and national organizations, receiving accolades such as the Region 3 Outstanding Achievement Award from the Association of the United States Army and the String of Pearls Leader award from the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.

As the VBC prepares for Arighi’s departure, the Board of Control will conduct a national search for her successor. Interested candidates can find more information on the VBC’s website.
