Animal Services and H.A.W.S. to Distribute Free Pet Food Nov. 16 as Shutdown Strains Local Families

To help pet owners affected by the ongoing government shutdown, Huntsville Animal Services is partnering with H.A.W.S. (Helping Animals Without Shelter) to host a free pet food drive-thru event on Sunday, Nov. 16.

The free, rain-or-shine event will be held from 1-4 p.m. at Tractor Supply, 3240c Memorial Parkway NW.

During the event, volunteers and staff will distribute free pet food, no questions asked and no restrictions, to ensure local families can continue caring for their beloved pets.

Attendees are encouraged to pull up to the distribution area, stay in their vehicles, and receive pet food from Animal Services staff and H.A.W.S. volunteers.

“We know this shutdown has placed a strain on many households, and we want to help keep families and their pets together,” said John Fischer, Animal Services Director. “Pets bring comfort, support and companionship during difficult times. By offering free pet food, we hope to ease one burden and help ensure pets stay fed, healthy and at home where they belong.”

Huntsville Animal Service Foundation is proud to assist and sponsor the effort by purchasing and providing a portion of the food distributed. The drive-thru model ensures a quick, contact-free experience for participants.
