Defense technology company DuoTech expands to Huntsville with new operations center
DuoTech, a North Carolina-based defense technology company, is expanding its operations to Huntsville with a new 25,000-square-foot location in Thornton Research Park near Bridge Street Town Centre. The facility will open in Spring 2026.
Duotech’s Vice President of Business Strategy, Robert Cox, said the Rocket City’s strong defense industry and skilled workforce were crucial factors in the company’s decision to establish operations in Huntsville.
“Huntsville’s ecosystem aligns perfectly with our mission to sustain and modernize mission-critical systems. The support we’ve received from the City of Huntsville, the State of Alabama, and the local business community has been tremendous,” Cox said.
The company is known for its expertise in military electronics repair and sustainment. Specific work the company performs includes repair of embedded electronics, designing and building market-leading automated test equipment (ATE) solutions to resurrect and optimize a test bed, and building advanced RADAR and electronic warfare (EW) products.
According to DuoTech’s website, the company saves its clients “… millions of dollars annually by providing expert aftermarket services for their legacy electronics systems, increasing defense platform operational availability, and helping clients free up time, money, and resources to apply to other initiatives.”
To find the best location for their new facility, DuoTech partnered with The Square Foot Huntsville Group, a local commercial real estate team affiliated with KW Commercial. The group works mainly with industrial and office properties.
Donna Lamb, team leader and owner at The Square Foot Huntsville Group, said DuoTech’s particular power, lab, and security needs required a tailored approach to locating the right facility.
In addition to the complex requirements for their office space, the defense technology company needed areas for distribution, manufacturing, and overhead doors to accommodate freight trucks for loading and unloading.
“Finding the right space for a high-tech company like Duotech takes the right mix of timing and listening,” Lamb said.
According to Lamb, DuoTech also wanted to be in a central location where it could maintain a strong presence in Huntsville, especially with dozens of new employees joining their organization.
“We’re thrilled to match their complex facility needs with the perfect location, and even more thrilled to welcome 50 new jobs to our local economy,” Lamb said.
Lamb shared that she believes the momentum she and her team are seeing in the market is resulting in increased demand in both the commercial real estate and job markets.
“Every week it seems like I’m talking to a company that wants to come to our community, (as well as investors from all over the country),” Lamb said.
Lamb continued, “I’ve heard recently that people are moving to Huntsville even without a job because they know they can probably find one here.”
Cooper Schrimsher, certified commercial investment member (CCIM) and partner at Square Foot Huntsville, said that from start to finish, the search and building preparation for the new site reflected the strength of Huntsville’s collaborative business environment.
“From site search to buildout, this project shows how public-private collaboration fuels economic growth,” he said.
Schrimsher echoed Lamb and Cox’s sentiments regarding the area’s growth, emphasizing that companies like Duotech continue to choose Huntsville for its talent and thriving business climate.
“Huntsville continues to attract some of the brightest companies in the country. Duotech’s arrival proves that momentum is only accelerating,” he said.
