WellStone opens first Madison location, launches upcoming online auction to support local mental health services for area residents

WellStone, a mental health services provider in North Alabama, has opened its first location in Madison.

Open Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., the Madison campus is located at 9238 Madison Boulevard, Suite 900. The new location serves adults 19 and older. Programs include individual, group, and intensive outpatient therapy (IOP) for mental health and substance use disorders.

Jeremy Blair, WellStone CEO, said he and his team are glad to provide services in the ever-expanding area of Madison.

“Madison consistently ranks among the fastest growing cities in the state. We’re excited to offer the same quality mental health services our Madison clients have come to expect from WellStone, but much closer to home,” Blair said.

New patients wishing to schedule an appointment at the Madison office should first complete an assessment by calling WellStone at 256-705-6444, or by visiting the organization’s main Huntsville location. Existing clients can transfer to the Madison location by speaking to their therapist or a customer service representative.

When needed, therapists will refer clients to other WellStone services and locations, including:

Karen Petersen, WellStone director of development, said the organization is excited to expand services into Madison.

“We’ve got some great therapists there who are really committed to providing the best care they can for Madison area residents. We are really excited. It seems like this was a long time coming to provide direct services, direct outpatient services to the Madison community,” Petersen said.

WellStone was founded in 1969. Today, the nonprofit is Alabama’s largest and most comprehensive mental health care provider. During its 2025 fiscal year, WellStone served more than 13,500 children, teens, and adults, and provided nearly $3.4 million in uncompensated care.

When seeking treatment at the mental healthcare provider, no one is turned away due to inability to pay.

In spring of 2021, WellStone became Alabama’s first provider to offer 24/7 mental health emergency urgent care services for adults.

In addition to serving adult emergency care, WellStone also has a pediatric unit for youth ages 8-18 who are experiencing mental health and substance abuse emergencies.

Community engagement remains a key part of WellStone’s mission. The organization’s annual Beacon of Hope fundraising event brings together community leaders, supporters, and families to raise awareness for mental health and substance use treatment across North Alabama.

The 2026 Beacon of Hope celebration is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, at the Jackson Center in Huntsville, with a social hour at 5 p.m. followed by a dinner program from 6-8 p.m.

This year’s sold-out event will feature keynote speaker Scott Cochran, head football coach at the University of West Alabama, who will share his personal journey with addiction and recovery.

Organizers say the event aims to “bridge gaps, lift voices and break down the stigma around behavioral health,” while supporting continued access to care in the region.

While tickets and sponsorships are no longer available for the event, a waitlist for seats can be joined online.

WellStone will also host its first-ever live Beacon of Hope online auction, which will be open to the public, on Monday, May 11.

One of the auction items is a University of Alabama football package. The package includes four tickets to the Alabama vs. Georgia game, a signed football from Nick Saban, and framed Alabama Football memorabilia.

For early access to the auction, individuals wishing to participate can email pr@wellstone.com.
