Mastin Lake Road closed under North Parkway overpass; more resurfacing scheduled

September 4, 2026/in Construction, Construction Zone, Featured, Government, News, Traffic, Transportation/by Bud McLaughlin

Motorists on North Memorial Parkway will encounter further construction work over the next several weeks.

The site of dozens of traffic wrecks, Mastin Lake Road under the new North Parkway overpass will be closed for several weeks while the overpass work is completed.

The Alabama Department of Transportation said it anticipates the intersection fully reopening in mid-October — after the new mainline opens to traffic in both directions and contractor Rogers Group completes paving under the overpass.

In lieu of left turns from all directions and through movements on Mastin Lake Road, detour signs will direct traffic to follow an alternate pattern.

Northbound traffic will U-turn at the protected left turn signal at Winchester Road. Southbound traffic will use the U-turn lane at Sparkman Drive/U.S. 72 East.

The $34 million project to extend the mainline and frontage roads appears on track for substantial completion late this year, ALDOT said. It extends from south of Mastin Lake Road to Winchester Road.

Rogers Group, the project contractor, anticipates the northbound mainline and overpass opening to traffic in mid-September, weather permitting.

The contractor plans to open the southbound mainline and overpass in early October.

North Parkway resurfacing

ALDOT also said a project to resurface 3 1/2 miles of North Memorial Parkway will begin Tuesday night, weather permitting.

Grayson Carter And Son Contracting will resurface the parkway mainline from Country Club Avenue to Cedarama Drive.

Most of the work will take place at night. Expect single-lane closures between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday nights.

The resurfacing project does not include about two miles that are part of the ongoing Parkway project.
