Pair of new buildings on HudsonAlpha campus recognized in 2023 Construction Awards

December 12, 2023/in Awards, Biotechnology, Community Development, Construction, Featured, Lead, Science, Technology/by Gus Wintzell

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Two new additions to the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology’s 152-acre campus were honored at the 20th annual Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of North Alabama 2023 Excellence In Construction Awards Celebration held on Thursday, Dec. 7, at the Jackson Center.

HudsonAlpha’s Kathy L. Chan Greenhouse and the Discovery Life Sciences (Discovery) global headquarters were recognized as award of excellence winners in its category: special projects $2-$100 million. Brasfield & Gorrie was the contractor for the projects. ABC’s Excellence in Construction program recognizes outstanding construction projects across the nation.

Located at 1000 Hudson Way, the Kathy L. Chan Greenhouse is a state-of-the-art facility designed to help HudsonAlpha’s plant scientists advance their mission to use genomics to help sustainably feed and fuel our planet. The 14,000-square-foot facility includes two molecular lab spaces, a glasshouse with seven grow rooms, a bioinformatics lab and many technologically advanced features.

Opened in October, Discovery’s new 93,000-square-foot global headquarters at 900 Hudson Way helped it consolidate jobs from across the HudsonAlpha biotechnology campus and the US.

HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology is a nonprofit organization dedicated to using genomics to improve life through developing and applying scientific advances to health, agriculture, learning and commercialization.

The HudsonAlpha campus co-locates nonprofit scientific researchers with entrepreneurs, educators and business leaders, and is home to more than 45 diverse biotech companies. The Institute’s campus is located within Cummings Research Park, the nation’s second-largest research park, in Huntsville, Alabama.
