UA System board approves Dr. Ronnie Hebert as vice president for student affairs, dean of students at UAH

The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has a new vice president for student affairs and dean of students.

Dr. Ronnie Hebert, who has been serving as the university’s interim vice president of student affairs and dean of students, was approved for the position by The University of Alabama System (UAS) Board of Trustees during a meeting of the board on Feb. 2. UAH is a part of UAS.

“I am proud to bring Ronnie into this combined role,” said Dr. Charles L. Karr, UAH president. “His expertise as our dean of students will allow us to leverage his knowledge and expand upon it. I know that his leadership will be felt throughout our campus life, specifically for our students.”

The UAH Division of Student Affairs provides a wide array of services designed to enhance the lives of the university community and to encourage leadership, innovation, critical thinking and civic responsibility among UAH students.

In his new role as vice president of student affairs and dean of students, Hebert will continue to oversee the same departments that have been within his purview in the interim post, including campus life, housing and residence life, dining services, and career services.

“I am excited to continue serving the UAH community as the vice president for student affairs and dean of students,” Hebert said. “We have a great team of committed staff in the Division of Student Affairs, and they have a passion for this institution and for serving our students. I look forward to continuing our work together in support of the students at UAH.”

Hebert holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University of Alabama. He earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology and a master’s in education in counseling and personnel services from The University of Southern Mississippi.

He holds certifications from the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment in non-clinical assessment of suicide and the Structured Interview for Violence Risk Assessment.

Hebert joined UAH in December 2017. As dean of students, he has been responsible for the offices of student life, Greek life, student conduct, career services, university recreation, university unions, student health services, counseling services and the university’s early alert program.

He previously served as a headquarters staff member for a national fraternity and in a number of roles within student affairs, academic affairs, student success and enrollment management offices at a wide range of institution types. He has also taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
