Breland planning to add to downtown office space revitalization with demolition of K&M Glass

February 7, 2024/in Community Development, Construction, Construction Zone, Development, Featured, Lead, News, Real Estate, Workforce Development/by Gus Wintzell

A major change to office space in downtown Huntsville is taking shape with the demolition of a pair  of decades-old buildings located on Seminole Drive.

Breland Companies initiated the demolition of the old K&M Glass buildings. The goal is to make room for a new 60,000 square foot Class A office building, which will complement the Lanier Ford Building.

Breland Companies currently owns and leases the Lanier Ford Building to tenants like the Lanier Ford Law Firm and First National Bank.

Britt Demolition and Recycling are handling the demolition of the 12,000 square foot building from the 1960s. Demolition is expected to take about a month.

Once the site is cleared, Breland plans is to construct a new four-story office tower mirroring the existing eight-story structure. Hay Buchanan Architects is currently designing the new building, which will include 60,000 square feet of office space and commercial space on the first floor, featuring a coffee shop and sandwich shop.

After construction, the new campus will cover over 166,000 square feet and offer 340 surface parking spots.

According to a recent press statement, Breland and Buchanan hopes that the new building will be “the largest and most convenient office option in downtown Huntsville.”

Breland Companies CEO Louis Breland mentioned that the new downtown development plans to aid in the overall redevelopment of the area.

“This site is right in the middle of the growth of Downtown Huntsville,” said Breland. “Over the last few years, we have seen development boom along the entire Clinton Avenue corridor between the courthouse square and Campus 805 making this a premier site for businesses to locate. We are proud to partner with the City of Huntsville in this next phase of downtown’s growth.”

Construction on the new building will begin immediately and leasing is now underway.
