Two former UAH Hockey players unite to help small business growth in Huntsville
Lucas Bahn and Joshua Corrow have founded an eponymous consulting firm, Bahn & Corrow, in Huntsville.
Bahn and Corrow, who both played hockey for UAH, met in 2020.
Corrow told the Huntsville Business Journal that the two teammates developed a strong friendship and soon discovered that they shared common values and goals.
“We both have an entrepreneurial spirit,” added Bahn. “We have always both wanted to pursue something like [starting a business], and we were always bouncing ideas off each other.”
The impetus to establish their consulting firm came about as Bahn and Corrow identified a need in the local business community.
“We noticed a gap in the market for strategy and management consulting services in the private sector,” explained Bahn.
In their research, Bahn and Corrow found that the majority of local consulting firms were oriented towards defense and government contracting companies. The pair concluded that small and medium-sized private businesses were underrepresented in terms of consulting services.
Bahn explained that the pair’s interactions with local businesses have proven what the initial research led them to believe.
Additionally, Bahn and Corrow have found a hunger for the face-to-face connection that is at the heart of their business model. The two men hope to set themselves apart by providing a relational touch, which they have found is frequently lacking in today’s business interactions.
“We’re not going to cold call [business owners], we’re not going to LinkedIn message them. We’re going to show up in person, look somebody in the eye, shake their hand and say ‘Hey, how’s your business going? What are you struggling with?’,” said Bahn. “Most people say that no one’s ever asked them that.”
As co-founders, Bahn and Corrow strive to work together as a team, rather than act as individual consultants. Each founder brings a specific set of skills to support the mission of the firm.
“Josh specializes in strategic finance, which allows him to support our internal financial elements as well as the strategies that are provided to our clients,” said Bahn. “From budgeting and forecasting, to financial reporting and analysis, Josh keeps a close eye on the financial health of the company, providing insights to optimize our operations.”
Bahn, who graduated magna cum laude from UAH in 2022 with a degree in business management and went on to earn a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Niagara University, has a separate role.
“I focus on the operational logistics and strategic marketing of our firm,” explained Bahn. “Anything from project coordination and management to identifying key market trends, my goal is to ensure our entire operation is efficient and that we are delivering exceptional service to our clients.”
Bahn and Corrow hope to apply these distinct skills to help grow companies who are seeking to earn a larger share of the market.
“Bahn & Corrow’s unique selling point is our innovative thinking, creative strategies, and willingness to pursue big challenges to get big results for our clients,” said Bahn.
Bahn said that the firm will know it has been successful when they exceed client expectations for a project.
“Overperformance and client satisfaction are two of our main goals,” said Bahn. Corrow agrees and adds that the firm strives to forge long-term relationships with clients.
“We have a vision in which the growth of a company we serve is the growth of Bahn & Corrow,” said Corrow.
Bahn explained that the firm has had early success with a local client in the sports and live entertainment industry.
The client “has seen significant improvements in customer retention, employee morale, public interest, and growth,” said Bahn.
In addition to their shared professional goals, both Bahn and Corrow are committed to contributing to their community in meaningful ways.
“In 2021, I founded a mission-based apparel company with the goal of shining a light on mental health awareness in the athletic community. Over the last two years, this company was able to donate 15% of all profits to the Athlete’s Against Anxiety and Depression Foundation,” explained Bahn.
In 2019, Corrow earned the “Humanitarian of the Year” by a Junior A hockey program in Alberta, Canada, where he lived at the time.
“This award was for volunteer work done throughout the community,” said Corrow. He and his teammates provided mentorship to local school children, and hosted numerous charitable events.
Bahn and Corrow, both from out of state, see themselves in Huntsville over the long term.
“Huntsville is an awesome place for opportunity. It is a growing area. There is a huge element of small business growth that we are pursuing, that we think we can help with. And we just love the area. We’ve been down here since school and we’ve just fallen in love with everything that Huntsville has to offer,” said Bahn. “As far as the future, this is where we see ourselves.”
