Cultural celebration blossoms at Huntsville Botanical Garden

April 22, 2024/in Community Development, Entertainment, Environment, Events, Featured, Lead, News, Tourism, Travel/Leisure/by Gus Wintzell

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Huntsville Botanical Garden (HBG) is set to transform into a vibrant mosaic of world cultures with the launch of Global Rhythm & Blooms, an event series promising a sensory journey through music, dance, and culinary delights.

Beginning on April 18 and continuing every Thursday until September 26, visitors can indulge in the rich diversity of Huntsville’s international communities, all within the ambiance of the Cedar Glade from 5 p.m. till dusk.

HBG CEO Susan Wagner expressed enthusiasm for the event.

“Music, food, and flowers transcend language barriers and are deeply rooted aspects of cultures around the world. Global Rhythm & Blooms offers an opportunity for people from all walks of life to connect not only with nature but also with each other,” said Wagner.

The event will spotlight a different culture or group of cultures every two weeks. Through collaborations with Huntsville and North Alabama cultural organizations, HBG aims to ensure authenticity and cultural sensitivity in every aspect of the event.

“We are delighted by the support from the City of Huntsville’s Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Their assistance in connecting us with various community organizations has enriched the authenticity of the experience,” said Laura McPhail, HBG’s Director of Marketing and Communications.

Global Rhythm & Blooms welcomes both HBG members and non-members, with free entry for members and a nominal fee of $10 for non-members after 5 p.m. Even leashed dogs can partake in the festivities for a nominal fee of $5 each. In case of inclement weather, the event will be relocated to the Nichols Arbor.

The series kicks off with a celebration of Celtic culture on April 18, featuring live music by Maple Hill Band, captivating dance performances, and culinary delights from the Get Loaded food truck. Subsequent weeks will showcase Hispanic, Asian, French, African American, Americana, Caribbean, British, Bayou/Cajun and Creole, Native American, Indian, and German Oktoberfest cultures, promising a diverse and enriching experience for all.
