Whataburger Celebrates Ribbon-Cutting of its First Huntsville Location

February 11, 2022/in Career, Community Development, Featured, Food, News, Workforce Development/by Lori Connors

For those of you already familiar with Whataburger and/or live in South Huntsville, you already know that business has been brisk. Whataburger’s first Huntsville location, which is situated on South Memorial Parkway, directly across from Redstone Road has been packed since opening day, November 22nd of last year. The parking lot is always full, and the drive-thru lines are perpetually several cars deep.

To celebrate this new addition to the South Parkway retail corridor, the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce, along with Whataburger’s company representatives, were all on hand yesterday for an official ribbon cutting ceremony.

Attendees and speakers included Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Small Business Ashley Engles-Ross, along with several Chamber members, team members representing the South Huntsville Main Business Association, and Whataburger’s operating partner, John Garcia.

The Rocket City Trash Pandas’ Astronaut Racer Buzz was also there to celebrate the milestone.

“We’re honored to bring Whataburger’s hearty and customizable creations to Huntsville,” said Garcia. “We want to thank the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce for celebrating with us and the community for welcoming Whataburger to the neighborhood.”

The South Huntsville location demonstrates continued growth for the Whataburger brand in the Tennessee Valley area of North Alabama. In fact, Huntsville is a mere two months ahead of Nashville in opening its very first Whataburger.

Whataburger is fully invested in the Huntsville community and looks forward to a longstanding partnership with the city. In addition to bringing 125 new jobs to the Rocket City, Whataburger is also a proud charitable partner of the Food Bank of North Alabama.

Whataburger has focused on its fresh, made-to-order burgers and friendly customer service since 1950.

Founder Harmon Dobson started the Whataburger custom burger concept. Growing from a small Corpus Christi, TX roadside burger stand, the San Antonio headquartered Whataburger now boasts more than 870 locations across 14 states, along with annual sales exceeding $3 billion. That’s a whole lot of burgers, fries, and shakes!

Whataburger employs a team of over 50,000 “Family Members.” Family Members are paid weekly and have access to flexible schedules. With a 24/7 business enterprise that draws in over 60 million hungry customers, there’s a lot of flexibility to be had.

All Family Members participate in a robust training program, effectively putting them on a career advancement track. For Managers and Operating Partners, there’s significant earning potential and both leadership roles receive competitive health, dental and vision benefits, paid vacation and 401(k) benefits.
