Scientific Research Corporation Gives Back to Alabama A&M University’s College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) announced a newly formed relationship with Alabama A&M University (AAMU) that aligns with a diversity  and inclusion strategy for community outreach and recruitment initiatives. SRC committed to a $165,000 investment to enable AAMU to meet the needs of the College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences students in an expanded capacity.

AAMU is Alabama’s largest historically black college & university (HBCU) located in Huntsville, AL with a strong community reputation for providing an accessible and affordable  pathway to education. AAMU is home to the largest number of minority STEM (Science,  Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) graduates in Alabama, is in the Top 3 HBCUs in  the nation for the graduation of STEM majors, and has the most diverse faculty in the state of  Alabama as 66% of AAMU’s faculty are members of an underrepresented group.

The College of Engineering, Technology, and Physical Sciences is an ABET (Accreditation  Board for Engineering and Technology) accredited program. ABET Accreditation is the most  recognized accreditation standard for degree-granting collegiate natural science, computing,  engineering and engineering technology programs.

In presenting the donation, Michael Watt, SRC Chairman & CEO stated that the partnership went way beyond the scope of just impacting Huntsville here and now.

“The employees of SRC  are eager to support AAMU and believe strongly in supporting organizations that graduate STEM  students to meet the ongoing needs of government contractors, the Department of Defense and ultimately the brave men and women that defend our nation. Many of our local team members are  graduates of AAMU and represent the quality of AAMU work in developing future STEM leaders.  We share a common passion to invest in the next generation and recognize the ability to change  the course of an entire generation a career in STEM can provide to Engineering, Technology and Physical Science students.”

Accepting the donation on behalf of AAMU, President of AAMU, Dr. Daniel K. Wims argued that this partnership was a major win for both the university and HBCUs as a whole.

“HBCUs now are a hot item around the country at this time. There are a lot of pledges and  promises made that never come to fruition. It’s a soundbite in many cases. I’m grateful for the follow up and partnership that [SRC] didn’t have to do. We are focusing on partnering with companies that have a presence in Huntsville. We have outstanding graduates who have done well  nationally and globally, but not so many stay in Huntsville. We would like for SRC to help us keep  our stars in Huntsville and you can help us with this. Thank you so much on behalf of our Board  of Trustees, our alums, our students and staff. This is a great partnership and a great investment.”
