Join City of Huntsville, Land Trust of North Alabama for Greenway Public Input Sessions

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Want to weigh in on the future of Huntsville’s greenway network? Then mark your calendar for the City of Huntsville and Land Trust of North Alabama’s public input meetings Nov. 28-30.

The Land Trust and City’s Planning Department will hold a series of evening forums to engage the public on the Greenway Master Plan. The goal of the open-house events is to review past progress and plan the next five years of the plan.

Greenways are critical to the City’s overall vision, promoting health and wellness, tourism, economic development, recreation and much more. By collaborating with the Land Trust, the City is advancing its plan to build more greenways in our community.

“When it comes to greenways, every project is unique,” said City Manager of Urban and Long-Range Planning Dennis Madsen. “While greenway planning, design and construction involve a lot of variables, we remain committed to providing these diverse, safe transportation and recreation options for the public.”

Citizens are invited to attend the following public input events:

• Monday, Nov. 28, 5:30-7 p.m., Johnson Legacy Center, 6000 Cecil Fain Drive
• Tuesday, Nov. 29, 5:30-7 p.m., South Huntsville Library, 7901-L Bailey Cove Road
• Wednesday, Nov. 30, 5:30-7 p.m., Williams Middle School, 155 Barren Fork Blvd. SW

The City of Huntsville’s Greenway Master Plan reflects the community’s vision for a connected system of trails and greenways for the benefit of the public. Informed by The BIG Picture comprehensive planning process, the Greenway Master Plan is designed to connect Huntsville’s cultural heritage and natural beauty.

Huntsville adopted its first Greenway Master Plan in 2006 to guide the development of greenways in our community. Currently, there are about 73 miles of existing greenways and trails throughout the Huntsville area. The City has budgeted 44 new miles for construction by 2023.
