Location for Space Command HQ Coming ‘Shortly’

December 5, 2022/in Community Development, Defense, Development, Economy, Featured, Government, Lead, Military, News, People, Space/by Gus Wintzell

HUNSVILLE, AL – Back in May, Huntsville received positive news from a U.S. Department of Defense Environmental Report for Space Command’s (SPACECOM) relocation from Colorado Springs, Colorado to the Rocket City.

The report concluded that Huntsville was a safe and proper city for relocation, and that “the process Air Force officials used to select Huntsville, Alabama, as the preferred permanent location for the U.S. Space Command headquarters (USSPACECOM HQ) complied with law and policy, and was reasonable in identifying Huntsville as the preferred permanent location.”

Now, Huntsville officials and citizens that have waited anxiously since the conclusion of that report might get some good news before the New Year.

Early last week in an online event, General James H. Dickinson, the commander of U.S. Space Command, told attendees that the decision would be announced very soon.

“I think the decision is going to come out shortly,” Dickinson said. “I don’t have a date or time. That is a decision by the secretary of the Air Force, and I know that they have been doing a very deliberate analysis of the two reports that came out.”

Right now, the official announcement waits on the final decision of Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, who is expected to make his decision within the coming days.
