Land Trust of North Alabama Conserves 10,000 Acres
The Land Trust of North Alabama officially announced that the organization has conserved over 10,000 acres across the region. A recent and significant land donation from Concord Land Development, Inc. of a 144-acre property in central Huntsville brings the organization to this conservation milestone and becomes the Land Trust’s tenth public nature preserve.
“Conserving land in the core of our community, even as we are experiencing this surge in development, exemplifies the values and belief our community has in saving our unique, natural lands. Surpassing 10,000 acres of conserved land is an extraordinary community achievement and will serve as a catalyst for even greater land conservation efforts,” Marie Bostick, Land Trust of North Alabama Executive Director, shared with Huntsville Business Journal.
“The Land Trust’s mission is to preserve North Alabama’s scenic, historic, and ecological resources through conservation, advocacy, recreation, and education. We lead regional and community collaborations that plan, preserve, and provide stewardship for green space in North Alabama,” Bostick explained.
On a more personal note, when asked why Land Trust and its mission are important to Bostick, the Executive Director explained, “I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy many hours playing, relaxing, learning, and working in nature. I think it’s important that everyone has that opportunity.”
“The Land Trust saves land in our own communities and gives everyone the chance to find their own connections to nature so they can enjoy the many physical and emotional benefits that it provides. But beyond quality of life, preserving natural land offers broad benefits for the community as a whole including obvious things like scenic beauty and environmental impact but also opportunities for tourism, environmental education, and corporate recruitment,” Bostick continued.
The Land Trust of North Alabama held the announcement the morning of May 1st at Trailhead Greenway Parking, in the attendance of Marie Bostick, Land Trust of North Alabama Executive Director; Matt Powers, Land Trust of North Alabama Chairman of Board of Directors; Mayor Tommy Battle, City of Huntsville; Mac McCutcheon, Madison County Commission Chairman; and Dan Nash, Concord Land Development, Inc.
