Kenita Simmons is a 16-year veteran of BAE Systems, a global defense, aerospace and security company. Kenita develops next-generation technology for warfighters. She is a member of the National Society of Black Engineers, the Society of Women Engineers, the Women in Aerospace organization, and a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce. During her career at BAE, she was named the Technology Rising Star by the Women of Color Magazine. She does community outreach through her church, which includes visits to the sick and elderly. Furthermore, Kenita also takes the time to mentor future engineers from underrepresented communities.

I love to mix/blend music and DJ all of the family events with self-made playlists.

What is the best part about working in Huntsville?

I am surrounded by a community of colleagues in the Space and Missile Defense industry and can draw from the immense amount of local talent within that community.

What is your best piece of advice for starting a career in Rocket City?

Get to know your local community and learn from it! From customers, suppliers, or partners, chances are you will have another opportunity to work with them in a different capacity sooner or later.
