Lockheed Martin received a contract valued at more than $35 billion to produce THAAD missiles, the Department of Defense announced.

“This award reflects our shared vision with the Department of War to strengthen America’s Arsenal of Freedom through a transformational shift to multiyear procurement,” said Tim Cahill, president, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “This new approach propels our efforts to strengthen the defense industrial base, expand production and deliver capabilities to the American warfighter at unprecedented speed and scale.”

Lockheed Martin also recently opened its Next Generation Interceptor facility in Courtland. The 88,000 square-foot, purpose-built plant will produce the Next Generation Interceptor for the Missile Defense Agency and bolster the nation’s layered missile defense architecture.

The multi-year contract heads the list of Huntsville companies or those with operations in Huntsville that recently won DOD contracts.
