Toyota Alabama Revved Up and Ready to Produce the 2022 Tundra Twin-Turbo V6 Engine

September 21, 2021/in News, Automotive, Featured, Technology/by Kimberly Ballard

Incredible power. Remarkable efficiency. Toyota Alabama announced they will begin exclusively producing the all-new twin-turbo V6 engine for the 2022 Toyota Tundra. The new i-FORCE MAX 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine line represents a $288 million investment in TMMA operations and it will add 450 jobs, bringing the plant’s total employment to 1800.

“This is a momentous occasion for Toyota Alabama and shows Toyota’s confidence in our North Alabama plant to be the sole North American producer of the twin-turbo V6 engine,” said Jason Puckett, president of Toyota Alabama. “Our incredible team here is revved up and ready to begin production!”

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Alabama is one of the largest Toyota engine plants in the world producing one-third of all Toyota engines in North America, and is a critical part of Toyota’s supply chain operations.

Production has steadily increased over the past 20 years to approximately 3,000 engines per day for the RAV4, Corolla, Tacoma, Sequoia, Highlander, Sienna, and Tundra. By the end of this year, it will have the capacity to produce 900,000 engines per year.

“Toyota’s continued investment in Toyota Alabama shows confidence in our ability to produce quality engines for North American operations,” said Puckett. “Plants are selected for engine production based on safety, quality, productivity, cost competitiveness and geographic proximity to the vehicle plant.

“By building vehicles and engines where we sell, we support local suppliers and economies, increase our overall investment, protect ourselves from currency fluctuations and, most importantly, build ever-better vehicles for our customers.”
