During its March 28 session, the Huntsville City Council rendered decisions regarding millions in road improvement funding, crucial connections to improve traffic flow, and continued to prioritize the development of art and culture.

$4.5M Slaughter Road improvements

The Council empowered the mayor to enter a memorandum of understanding between Huntsville, the City of Madison, and Madison County concerning improvements along Slaughter Road.

With a proposed budget allocation of $1.5M from the City and over $4.5M in total from all three bodies, the project is aimed to bolster traffic management and safety in the area.

$140K Colonial Promenade sale to foster crucial road connections

One of the pivotal resolutions authorized Mayor Battle to negotiate a purchase agreement for property within the Colonial Promenade development.

This agreement, proposed between the city of Huntsville and TLZ Huntsville Promenade LLC, was met with unanimous approval from the council.

Shane Davis provided insight into the acquisition’s purpose, which focused on facilitating crucial road connections, enhancing traffic flow and accessibility for residents at a discounted rate of $140K.

Arts Huntsville to continue managing public art program

The Council renewed its partnership with Arts Huntsville, extending a contract to manage the city’s public art program.

The renewed agreement now spas more than 2.5 years. Council members expressed optimism regarding the program’s growth, citing Arts Huntsville’s ability to leverage funds for art acquisition and maintenance.

Drone light show to kick off 2024 Concerts in the Park

The council also authorized the mayor to enter into a Facility Use Agreement between the City of Huntsville and Sky Elements, LLC, to conduct a drone light show as part of the inaugural 2024 Concerts in the Park.
