Local founders celebrated at gener8tor movie screening
The red carpet was rolled out at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center on the evening of December 12 for a special VIP Screening of Pioneers of Progress, a documentary that celebrates the most recent cohort of founders from gener8tor Huntsville programs.
This project highlighted not only the gener8tor and Gbeta startup programs, but also provided ample screen time for each founder to show their passion and innovative ideas, which will hopefully impact the future.
For those not familiar, gener8tor is a global venture firm and accelerator network that supports startups, workers, employers, artists, and musicians across race, place, and gender – spanning more than 41 communities across 22 states and two countries.
Since its inception, gener8tor Huntsville has supported 68 companies, helping them raise $52 million in the process.
Similarly, the gBETA Huntsville program is made possible by a partnership between gener8tor, Innovate Alabama, Apollo Foundation and RCP Companies.
gBETA serves as a non-equity accelerator that facilitates the growth of early-stage companies through a network-driven program. Since launching in 2015, gBETA accelerator alumni have raised $775M+ in capital and created 4,728+ jobs globally.
After the premiere showing, HBJ spoke with Lucas Bahn, cofounder of PlayerIntro – one of the five companies selected for the 2024 Gener8tor gBETA program – to discuss his experience.
“Our experience with Gener8tor has unlocked the door to many brilliant individuals who offer new perspectives, insights, and critical feedback, helping us to improve in all areas of our business,” Bahn explained. “People are by far the most valuable assets of any company, so being able to connect with these individuals through gener8tor has been a blessing.”
gBeta Program Director Rochelle Silveira also used the occasion to announce the launch of SPARK, the newest venture program powered by gener8tor.
SPARK is designed to empower builders, developers, and innovators in North Alabama to bring their startup ideas to life.
“SPARK is ideal for entrepreneurs who have an idea but haven’t launched it yet,” Silveira explained. “The program will kick off on January 23, 2025, and will be held in person in Huntsville.”
Focused on foundational support, SPARK aims to act as a precursor to programs like gener8tor and provide participants with resources, mentorship, and workshops to validate their ideas, launch minimum viable products, and prepare for the next steps in their entrepreneurial journey.
This program will be completely free and equity-free, offering access to a dynamic network of mentors and resources.
Speaking about the importance of Thursday night’s event, Silveira reaffirmed the satisfaction she receives from working with each cohort.
“This project highlights their passion, resilience, and game-changing ideas that are not just shaping industries but transforming communities,” said Silveira.
She continued, “I’m honored to be part of this journey and impact the community, working with such visionary entrepreneurs who prove that innovation knows no boundaries. From AgTech to AI, CPG, carbon credits and healthtech, these founders are not only redefining what’s possible—they’re building the future right here in Huntsville.”
