Forget I-65 ‘parking lot’, Allegiant Air offers flights from Huntsville to Gulf Shores

May 15, 2026/in Aerospace, Entertainment, Events, Featured, Lead, News, Recreation, Tourism, Traffic, Transportation, Travel/Leisure/by Bud McLaughlin

Imagine leaving Huntsville and getting to the white sand beaches of the Gulf in less than an hour.

That’s right. There is now an option to the grueling ritual of spending the equivalent of a workday on I-65.

And with the last day of school and the Memorial Day weekend on the horizon, summer travel plans are being made.

So, while thousands of Alabamians prepare for the traditional “stop-and-go” traffic on the interstate, Huntsville International Airport (HSV) passengers will be checking their bags and heading to the gate.

Allegiant Air, HSV’s newest ultra-low-cost airline, is launching its nonstop service to Gulf Shores International Airport on May 21 – just in time for summer.

“You can feel the anticipation in the community,” said Butch Roberts, CEO of Huntsville International Airport. “For years, our customers have asked for a way to get to the Alabama Gulf Coast without the headache of the drive, and that’s soon to be a reality.

“You can literally spend lunch hour in North Alabama and be at the white sands of the Gulf in time to pick out your fresh seafood for dinner.”

In less than two weeks, Allegiant will make history by debuting Alabama’s only intra-state commercial nonstop route, offering Rocket City travelers a direct pipeline to the beach.

As travelers face record-breaking prices at the gas pump this summer, the new route not only saves precious vacation time, it’s saving gas money as well. Fares start at just $39 one way. The fares can be viewed at Allegiant.com

While the spotlight is on the upcoming Gulf Shores launch, Allegiant’s expansion into Huntsville has already seen massive success with its Florida routes, which began service this season.

Allegiant’s flights from HSV:

  • Gulf Shores starts May 21
    Thursday/Sunday
    From $39*
  • Fort Lauderdale
    Monday/Friday
    From $39*
  • St. Pete/Clearwater
    Monday/Thursday
    From $39*
  • Sanford/Orlando
    Thursday/Sunday
    From $39*

Tickets for the inaugural May 21 flight to Gulf Shores are selling fast, and Allegiant has continued the service to Gulf Shores through Dec. 2.

With one-way fares starting as low as $39, airport officials are encouraging travelers to book immediately to secure these low fares for summer vacations and weekend trips to the beach.

“We’ve seen incredible demand for all four of these Allegiant routes,” said HSV Board Chair Joey Ceci. “Bringing more seats and lower fares to our market was the goal, and the community’s response shows they were ready for it. The countdown is on; it’s time to skip the drive and fly.”
