Huntsville City Council rezones Drake Farm in preparation for brand new development
During Huntsville City Council’s most recent meeting, the Council passed a resolution assigning a zoning designation to Drake Farm, which is slated to be a major development for Huntsville.
Huntsville City Council approved the rezoning of the 88.78 acre Drake Farm site, lying on the north and south side of Cecil Ashburn Drive, and east and west of Old Big Cove Rd. to Residence 1-A District, Highway Business C-4 District, and Residence 2 District.
The Drake Farm development was compared to the likes of Hays Farm in both importance and style, and is slated to bring potential housing developments, retail locations, and new office spaces.
“The Drakes are selling their family farm, and it will have as much of an impact in that area as the Hays property has had on the South Parkway,” said Robinson.
City Council President David Little noted that city planners have mentioned how transformative this project will be upon completion.
“The folks out in that part of the community have been looking for something like this, some amenities to keep them from driving over the mountains. So I think it’s going to be great,” said Little.
The Huntsville Business Journal will keep readers updated on developments in the near future regarding the Drake Farm development.
