Lockheed Martin wins $58.6 billion contract for Patriot production

August 3, 2026/in Acquisition, Aerospace, Defense, Featured, Government, Manufacturing, Military, News, Technology/by staff reports

A $58.6 billion Army contract for Lockheed Martin reinforces long-term efforts to expand interceptor manufacturing for the Patriot air and missile defense system.

The seven-year contract supports sustained production of the PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptor, a key component of the United States’ layered air and missile defense architecture.

Officials said the agreement reflects continued investment in increasing industrial production capacity as demand for advanced air defense interceptors grows among the United States and its international partners.

The multiyear procurement comes amid rapidly growing global demand for integrated air and missile defense.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022, ballistic missile attacks, cruise missile strikes, and the increasing use of long-range precision weapons have reinforced the importance of layered air defense systems.

“This is a once-in-a-generation moment, and we are moving with wartime urgency to deliver the Arsenal of Freedom,” said Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Jim Taiclet. “Lockheed Martin is sparing no effort with our investment, hiring and facility upgrades as we deliver on the government’s acquisition transformation.”

The long-term procurement is intended to provide greater production stability for one of the most capable hit-to-kill interceptors used by the United States and its allies against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and other advanced aerial threats.

By extending the production framework over seven years, the agreement is expected to improve planning certainty for the Army, Lockheed Martin, and the industrial supply chain supporting the PAC-3 MSE program.

The contract supports not only continued deliveries for the Army but also requirements from allied nations operating Patriot systems through Foreign Military Sales and other defense cooperation programs.

The modification brings the total cumulative face value of the $53,859,843,289 contract to $58,620,843,289.

Work on the contract will be performed in Huntsville and elsewhere with an estimated completion date of March 31, 2035. The Army Contracting Command at Redstone Arsenal is the contracting activity.

“(This) announcement turns concept into reality, providing industry with the long-term demand signals it needs to build a resilient supply chain, scale production, and deliver critical capabilities to our warfighters at the speed of relevance,” said Michael P. Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment.
